Rollout date for 10-digit calling

Post by brad722 » Thu Jan 22, 2009 1:28 am

I am evaluating ooma for possible purchases by friends and family and have discovered one significant negative to the service -- the necessity of adding a "1" to EVERY 800 call and EVERY call outside of the user's home area code.

This is a tremendous inconvenience and separates ooma from most (or all) of its VOIP peers, where 10-digit dialing is de rigueur.

For us, the lack of 10-digit dialing is a deal killer.

Can you provide a specific date when the need to add the superfluous "1" to each of these described calls will be eliminated?

THANKS.

I just placed a call to the 941 area code in Florida from my area code of 215 in Pennsylvania without dialing a preceding 1.

in almost EVERY major metro area in the country, you have to dial 1+the area code, +the phone number to be connected..you must live somewhere where there is only one area code..
in chicagoland, there are about 7 area codes, some areas have a different area code across the street, so we have been dialing 1+area code+number for a long time..
get used to it..

Still better than Skype. For it to call my parents, 1 miles away and a local call. I had to dial 001-area code-number-* (001-555-123-4567-*)

That is why I am now on Ooma.

This was Skype with the Zoom box hooked to it so I could use a normal phone.

Sorry, the 10 digit dialing release has been delayed until the following week -- we'll send an email notification as soon as it's available.

I have had ooma for about 3 weeks and I have never had to dial a 1? I call 800 and long distance without a 1.
What a great service and piece of equipment :)

From the 1st day that I had Ooma in July 2008 and as stated by a previous post I have from Ooma (VOIP only) seven, ten and 11 digit dialing in NYC area. NYC has a bunch of area codes.
