Post by harryy300 » Thu Apr 16, 2009 8:28 am

the question is: after several years from now could I sell my ooma and can it be re-activated by someone else or is it a one owner deal??

thanks Harry

Good question, I'm assuming you could, but you would have to give Ooma all the info to transfer.

I think you can change name, address, password, in fact all personal information in the lounge.

Personally, I'm more concerned about device theft. If someone takes my hub, how can I quickly recover my phone number. I don't mind paying $250 for a new hub, the loss of my phone number could be very serious.

A call to tech support can instantly make your stolen unit into a brick and register your new unit with your existing number.

Also today, you can transfer ownership of an existing ooma System to another person only if you call customer support. So if you were to sell your ooma System to another person, you'd just need to get their contact information and give it to the support team to "release" your ownership. The main reason we have this process is to protect against theft of the device.

That's great to hear after buying my hub I was reading about the Telo and thought well shoot I should have waited lol. Nice to know I can sell the hub if I upgrade to the Telo when it comes out.

Just to be clear, there IS a re-activation fee if you transfer your box to someone else. IIRC, it's currently around $20 and covers the costs of handling the transfer (very manual process today), allocating a new phone number, updating caller name records, etc.
