OomaTelo DP1-T Desk Telephone

Post by oomamaniacal » Wed Jun 13, 2018 10:25 pm

The Ooma DP1-T desk phone is listed on Amazon, but got a 1 star review after the buyer found out that the phone is still in beta testing. I noticed that the phone is not for sale on the Ooma site.

Has anyone had luck with the phone. I heard that customer service was not very helpful. Also, do you have to use a Telo 2, or is it compatible with a Telo1?

I have never seen this item before and know nothing about it. However based on its design I would guess that it is intended for use with Ooma Office.

The original HD1 handsets ( black & white screen) do not work with the later version of the Telo 1 or with the Telo 2. The Telo would have to have a firmware version that knows about the device for it to work.

Following this because I need to replace my old Panasonic cordless system (2 of 5 power blocks have failed and with Ooma I don't need the Pany's answering machine any more). I'm thinking this DP1-T on my desk and HD3's elsewhere in the house where my Pany's handsets reside/resided.

I see it's now available for purchase on the Ooma site ( https://www.ooma.com/telo/wireless-home-phone/ ). So, it's wireless. Nice. But does it *have* a phone jack so that we *could* use it direct connect to the Telo?

Hi Psklenar,

When I click on the link to buy the DP1-T phone, I get a red error message stating that the phone is not on the Add-Ons page. I have a Telo One, so I think it may not be compatible with
the older Telos. All the recent firmware updates have been for Office or the Telo 2 (see below). (There is a version of the phone for Office, the DP1-O). However, both are wireless, so there would not be a phone jack. That means it would use up one of the four wireless slots on the Telo 2. It's too bad because it would be nice to have a desk phone that accessed the Premier features.

I just found this note on Amazon: "Requires Ooma Telo device.
Not compatible with early versions of Ooma Telo. Compatible with devices having an Activation Code beginning with 2 or higher. Each Ooma Telo supports up to 4 Ooma DP1-T phones."

I just received mine today. No phone jack to answer that question - totally wireless. It has a 3.5mm headset jack and headset key so I am going to explore that. The reason I bought one was to have easier conference ability. (The newer Telo does not have the line1 and line 2 buttons, so to do a conference call you must use one of Ooma's newer cordless phones. At least I have not found out how to do it on a regular phone.)

Hello,

You can conference two parties together from any touch-tone phone using the star code, *3.

How is the volume on the handset?

The volume on the handset is low even with the volume turned all the way up, but when you turn the volume all the way up the person on the other end sounds distorted.
I had emailed Tom from ooma and he said the engineers are working on it.
