RECORDING OOMA CALLS

Post by nychotxxx » Sat Aug 03, 2019 9:01 am

I'm in a profession where I have to record some phone calls I make, and receive. With my landline I had a device that hooked into my line in the wall and also attached to my digital recorder. I could then transfer the recording to software on my Mac and transcribe it. Anyone know of some kind of setup/hardware/software that will allow me to record OOMA calls -- other than having the phone on speaker and recording??? Any help most appreciated. I know the pertinent recording laws, so please don't get into that subject.

Connect a phone line splitter to the Telo. One side to the phone and the other side to the recorder.

@MURPHY You mean just one of those simple $2.00 splitters? so the splitter connects where? I have an ooma telo air, an ooma Linx (at this point dont even need it hooked in) and a vtech base and vtech phone (set of 4) cordless. The recorder is just a small Olympus digital recorder. Not clear how it would be connected?????

Yes simple splitter.
Disconnect Vtech base from Telo.
Connect splitter to Telo.
Connect Vtech base to splitter.
Connect recorder to splitter.

Oh wait. I just reread the original post.
Do you not have the device you used with the landline any more?

@Murphy. It's the same recorder, an Olympus digital like this -- Olympus WS-853 Digital Voice Recorder (Black) with Built-in 8GB & Direct USB. See on Amazon. The device that allowed it to tape is a tiny box with one thin cable going to the recorder's single jack -- a jack about the size of where you would fit an earplug. the other part of the cable went into the phone jack in the wall. It recorded in a format that I then moved to my computer to transcribe. What do you think?

Do you still have the "tiny device"?
There has to be something in there to protect the recorder from the 48 volt phone line.
Hook it up the way you did with the landline except the jack on the Telo is now the "landline".

Tomorrow I'll post the name of the 'tiny' device. I've had it for so long I don't remember what's it's called or where I got it. It might be something Radio Shack had sold. If I use the telo as the landline, where do I plug in the phone?

@Murphy I'm pretty sure this is the device i have, except it goes into the jack on the digital recorder not the old fashion one shown in the photo.

So can you see it working with the ooma set up I have. If not my other option is the Olympus TP-8 recorder. Google and let me know what you think. TIA.

There is no functional description in that link so I can't tell how it works.
We are back to the simple phone line splitter to provide a jack for the device and the phone.
