ANYONE USE OOMA BATTERY BACKUP UNIT

I'm considering buying it ($34.95) but would like to hear from anyone who has one and has used it in a power failure and if it worked.

I think that is only designed to run the Telo. If you don't have a UPS on your modem and router or gateway, then you will lose Internet service and the Telo won't work. You may be better off getting a regular UPS and plugging in both your Telo and your modem/gateway/router.

And if you have cordless phones (other than the Ooma phones), you would need to plug your base station into the UPS if it does not have battery backup. My Panasonic system has a built-in battery backup, however.

@omamaniacal I have Vtech phones and I doubt the main base has battery backup. What kind of UPS would you recommend? We have five cordless phones in the system. How long would a UPS give power. I've never dealt with one before.

I decided not to use a UPS for Ooma. I have set MyOoma to forward all calls to a cell phone if the Telo ever goes offline. I have a backup battery for my cell phone instead.

UPS run time depends on the size of the UPS and the load on the UPS. A large UPS with only a Telo connected to it will last for many hours. At half load it will last up to a half hour. At full load it might only last for 5 minutes.

In addition to the Telo everything in the path to the internet has to be on an UPS. In addition to the base unit for a cordless phone the chargers for the handsets need power especially if the handsets are not left in their charging cradles when not in use.

I have relatively small UPS units on everything important. They only have to last a couple of minutes until the backup house generator automatically starts up and comes on line.

Even with all of that the batteries on the poles for Comcast's lines last for about 1.5 hours and then the internet disappears.

oomamaniacal's method makes a lot of sense since most large cell towers have backup generators.
