FAX and Linx

Post by Ben3000 » Sun Dec 29, 2019 6:47 pm

Hello All,

I was wondering if I could use a Linx to hook up a FAX machine to Ooma. Of course I would subscribe to Ooma Premier so I could have two phone numbers. I plan to use one the numbers as a dedicated phone line and the second number as a dedicated FAX line.

As I have read through Ooma's support, it says that I need to get a HD3 handset which I do not need and want to avoid. I would rather buy a Linx than a handset.

Thanks for any help.

You don't need to buy any HD3 handsets, but the Linx may not work well for faxing. If it does not, then I would recommend using the Linx for a dedicated voice line and wiring your fax machine to the Telo.

Thanks for the information.

How about if I buy two Linx units? One Linx as a dedicated phone line and the second Linx as a dedicated FAX line. Would this work?

You can use up to 4 Linx units per Telo. I use one for my second line which I feed into my cordless phone base station. I can therefore use as many handsets as my Panasonic allows.

So, are you saying that if I buy two Linx units then I can have a dedicated line for phone and another dedicated line for FAX?

I have two lines and I fax with the feed going to the Telo. I don't know how well the Linx would work with your fax machine.

I thought part of the reason for the Linx was for using a fax machine with Ooma and not needing to connect directly to the Telo. Are you saying faxing through the linx does not work well?

The Linx is connect to the Telo via DECT6. Fax will always be better with a hard wired connection.
I sent my last fax around 1995.

It does say in the description it is for Fax machines tho.... It's not like a fax machine has a huge bandwidth (9600 baud)

I don't send many either, probably can count the number on one hand in that same number of years. Unfortunately some places still insist on it for some archaic policy. For that reason I keep it around and if (tying into my other message) go to the Telo Air 2 would need to connect it via a linx.
