Still using the 1st gen Telo1 (2011), can I use the newer HD3 handsets in place of the OG handsets? I already know you can't mix them.

If by OG you mean the ones with the black and white screen the Telo has to be switched to HD2 handset mode. The switch will cause the Telo to reboot. I don't have any HD3 handsets but I think they use the same protocol as the HD2.
The switch can be done on the DECT screen of the web page that is inside of the Telo or by dialing *#*#302.

The HD3 will not work with the first gen Telo. I bought one and had to return it.
