Mobile app wont play messages

I have android mobile app 3.11 when I receive a voice mail and try to play it in the app it shows loading but never plays the message.
Google Play Store has an app called Voicemail Checker for Ooma. I have mine setup only to send me text messages when I've received a voice mail. I then use the above app to check for messages. I can tap a message and it is played for me through my standard music app. The whole thing is seamless. It is also free but I did donate because it is a great idea and works flawlessly. Hope this helps
BTW The app is designed so that you can have it poll to download new messages. I've chosen not to poll because that uses battery, cpu etc. Therefore, when I receive a text, I have the app check and then I listen.
