Negative Event Notification?

Post by fullermarc » Mon May 13, 2024 5:21 pm

Here is a quote from Ooma's security app web page:
Get notified through the base station speaker or mobile app when an event does or doesn’t occur, like when your child misses curfew.
Can somebody explain to me how I get an alert say when something DOES NOT happen by 11PM , for example. For instance if my garage door is not closed by 11 PM.

Thanks

Whenever anyone sends an email to Ooma support about a new inquiry/concern, Ooma automatically sends a generic response back, acknowledging receipt of the email. Don't read anything more into it than that. Ooma will usually follow up within a day or so, with a more specific response.

That web page is just for marketing purposes, so it's light on technical details. The security system can send "negative alert" notifications when one event (such as "door closed") does not follow another event (such as "door opened"), within a given time frame. But it can't schedule an alert for a specific time of day/night.

The timing of the notification depends on when the first event occurred, and how long the security system waits for the second event. Browse the smart security support site for more information about how to use the mobile app to set up the garage door and other sensors.

What I posted is not the automated response, but rather the actual follow up email saying they are forwarding my question. Over a week later, and I have heard nothing else. As for the time between events, I think their description is misleading at best. If I want to know if my son made curfew, it should not depend on when they left home. I have my garage door set so that it only repots closures 3 hours after they happen. However, if it does not happen I do not get a notification at any time.

The follow up email was just a standard response, to provide a status update. Use the motion sensor to keep track of whenever people come and go. Use the "door opened" notification for the garage door sensor to get an alert when the garage door has been left open for too long.
