Who monitors the alarm system?

So, exactly who monitors these security systems? Is it someone in the U.S., or is it being entrusted to the not very reliable off shore team that does such a wonderful (tongue in cheek) job of fixing problems when they occur?

You monitor it; that's probably why the monthly charge is so cheap. After seeing someone's alarm system on my street activated, I realized that they're doing pretty much what you can do for yourself: call 911. Whether your call goes to dispatch or a leased private security service, the result is still the same. I'd frankly rather pay $5/month and pick up the phone myself.
