Internet is fine and even with no significant activity my Ooma Telo Air 2's call audio is very laggy. Even trying to put it on my top of my router's QoS list has done nothing. It seems internal to the Ooma device.

Behavior seemed to follow a recent Ooma update (I noticed one morning the device was offline and the red LED flashing, then ever since it came back online to blue the issue has persisted).

Does "laggy" mean high latency? Access the device settings, and check the "XC latency" and other metrics, at the 'Tools' -> 'Call Statistics' page. It should normally be less than 100 ms.

Not sure if it's latency in this case. The voices on either end will actually sort of distort and drag on a fraction of a second in various parts of speaking.

I'll try playing around with the latency setting you mention, thanks for that, though I changed no settings on the device via its onboard interface prior to this starting to occur.

Aside from the latency specific settings, I noticed that the Ooma device's wifi signal is only at two bars per its web UI.

I tried using an old 2.4 GHz range extender I had lying around to interface between it and my router, but for reasons unknown the Ooma when I try to assign it a static rather than dynamic IP along with DNS and router addresses tells me "Something went wrong" without any other detail whatsoever of the issue. Very unhelpful!

At this point, said range extender (the only 2.4 GHz one on my network, because the Ooma is the only 2.4 GHz wifi device) does not appear to be connecting with the Ooma, so the signal isn't getting boosted. Short of hardwiring the Ooma to my router, if anyone has any suggestions on the wifi config I'd appreciate it. I'm guessing that's the bottleneck here.

Configured the extender to have its own 2.4 GHz network specifically for the Ooma and was able to connect to it successfully. Still only two bars' signal strength, but I'll watch to see if it mitigates the laggy voice.

If hardwiring the Telo to the router is not practical, (even temporarily), then try repositioning one or both devices to increase the signal strength. Also try to identify any other nearby sources of interference, such as cordless telephones, baby monitors, and any other Bluetooth, wireless, or unshielded devices.

I don't know that interference is an issue FWIW, there are no other devices near the Ooma except a cordless phone which has been adjacent to it for literally years before and since getting the Ooma without issues. I think I'm okay so far with having basically dedicated one range extender in solely 2.4 GHz mode to the Ooma. Several long-running calls have shown no degradation in voice quality.

While my router and the rest of my wifi network uses 5 GHz plus the router's own proprietary mesh networking methodology, the 2.4 GHz Ooma is left out of that sort of "red headed stepchild" style. So far things seem to be doing okay with this arrangement.

Anyway, thanks for the help, I think I've mitigated the issue reasonably for now. :)
