It's strange because the person I'm talking to can hear me just fine, but I have a very hard time hearing them. The sound is mechanical and jumbled. The problem seems pretty random. It can occur when the bandwidth isn't being used by anything else, or when we are streaming videos online. I have 18mbps cable internet. I haven't changed my setup recently. Modem->Ooma (don't have a router).
Anyone know how I can start trouble shooting this? I've checked all the cables, and read on the forums here about adjusting the upload speed in the QoS to 80% of what my upload speed is from a speedtest. I did that. I haven't noticed any improvement. What next?
Some people have had luck with the following when they have higher capacity Internet speeds:
Try setting your QoS in your Ooma to zero for both the Upstream and downstream settings, and then test.
Others have had luck setting the QoS Upstream and Downstream speeds to a higher value that the measured Upload and Downloads speed as measured by
http://www.speedtest.net/
To help stabilize your Ooma Internet connection:
If your Ooma device is connected Modem-Ooma, access your Ooma Setup pages by typing
http://172.27.35.1 in your computer browser window. The Ooma Setup pages open. Click on Internet, go down to INTERNET Port MAC Address: and change setting from Automatic to Use Built In. Click on Update device. Reboot your Modem, when the Modem is done booting reboot your Ooma device.
If you continue to have problems:
You could run
http://speedtest.phonepower.com/ to see how your modem and Internet connection is doing, and post the following here: (Do this test not during but right after you are having problems hearing).
