Router doesn't support upstream QOS, will Telo behind router

Post by RiffRaffTO » Sat Sep 02, 2017 8:02 am

Hi,

I have a linksys EA8500. It only has downstream QOS via a "media prioritization" feature. We get complaints that the other end of the phone call sometimes is garbled, so I think it is an upstream QOS issue. My Telo is behind the router (and that is where it needs to stay for various reasons). Is there anything I can do to make sure sufficient upstream bandwidth is available to the Telo? Our speeds are 75 Mbps down/10 Mbps up via cable modem.

Thanks,
Riff

Run the html5 version of this test.

http://www.whichvoip.com/voip/speed_test/ppspeed.html

I found that my modem was dropping up to 17% of my upstream packets which destroyed my upstream voice connection.

My EA3500 handles upstream QOS, I would expect an EA8500 to also handle it. Isn't there a place where you specify the upstream bandwidth manually or let the router determine it for itself automatically?

Attached are the results of the VOIP test - only issue reported here appears to be consistency.

I also attached the settings for "media prioritization" on my router. As you can see, only downstream is supported

I had heard that at one point the firmware had both upstream and downstream settings but for some reason in one of the updates (apparently before I got the router) they removed the upstream control.

Not sure what to do.
