Telo QoS not effective at improving call quality

Post by mlea204 » Fri Oct 13, 2017 7:01 am

My Internet service provide 20 Mbps downloads & 1.5 Mbps uploads, and have my Telo connected in-line between my modem and my router so it can manage my Internet traffic for optimum voice quality, as suggested in the documentation. I've found that voice quality is excellent as long as I'm not consuming much upstream bandwidth... but once I upload anything at 500 Kbps or above, my voice starts to break up for the remote party. As I approach my full 1.5 Mbps upload capacity, the quality degrades to the point where the call is unusable.

I've attempted a number of different bandwidth combinations in the Telo QoS settings, and none seem to have any effect.

Looking at the byte counters on the Telo interface statistics, I don't see them increasing at the rate they should be, given the data passing through the Telo. If the Telo's QoS feature uses these counters to make decisions, it's unlikely to be able to effectively control anything.

Any suggestions?

Didn't notice any difference.

I notice that the QoS page now only permits settings between 4 & 10 Mbps (4000 & 10000 Kbps)... lower than that must be zero. What does 0 default to?

Thanks.

If that's correct... then this update disables QoS for anybody with <4 Mbps upstream, which seems counter-intuitive.

Hmm....that's interesting. I have less than 1Mbps up, and have been having lots of complaints from folks on the other end of call for several months now. This might be somewhat of an explanation.
