Excess audio level, echoes

We have recently set up a Telo in conjunction with a Panasonic KX-TG7645 wireless system, with the Telo replacing a former Comcast VOIP setup. We are using Comcast 60 Mb/s internet connection.
Outgoing call volume level seems too high. It is not distorted to my ear, but it is uncomfortably loud compared with other phone systems. As a side-effect (I think) we sometimes hear rather strong echoes when we are talking through the Ooma system. Apparently, the destination phone system does not do perfect echo suppression and we get a strong-ish echo back from them.
This could be improved if we could attenuate our outgoing audio by 5 or 10 dB. Any practical way to do this?
