clearwire 1.5 Mbps or 2.0 Mbps or stay away ?

I'm thinking of switching from my cable internet provider to Clearwire. The Clearwire tower is about 100 yards away from me. What I wanted to see is what experience people have had using Ooma on Clearwire.....good, bad or indifferent...and what speed does Clearwire give you (speedtest.net) that allows you this performance with ooma.

Thanks !

VoIP in general doesn't work too well with wireless broadband.

I have Clearwire and it doesn't work well with Ooma. Incoming voice is fine but outgoing voice is all broken up.

The jitter on Clearwire will likely cause your outgoing voice quality to be poor. Definitely stick with a hardwired ISP.

jdorin has the Clear 3Mbps plan and the VoIP quality test result he reported wasn't good.

I would also suggest staying away from wireless broadband, however, at 100 yards distance from the tower, you may have an advantage. Perhaps its worth a try but generaly it is not recommended. DSL can get away with lower bandwidth (basic service), wireless opens the door to many other hardware vairables, ontop of which if you have inclimant weather your going to be screwed.

Stay away. Period.

I had Clear for a while. Even with an excellent signal, I had terrible performance, both in general internet use, and with Ooma. Ooma was nearly unusable. I switched back to DSL a couple months ago, and everything is been great ever since.

Clear promises a lot, but at least in my case, they delivered mostly just frustration. Plus, spending 15 minutes messing around with the clear modem every few hours in order to try to get the best possible signal got annoying after a while, too.

I have Clear 3.0 Mbps downlink and 1.0 Mbps uplink and Ooma works just fine - I have had no complaints from the people that I call. Maybe I am just lucky - who knows. When I was trying Magic Jack folks complained endelssly - it was awful. Don't be afraid to give it a try - after all you do have 30 days to try it out to see if you want to keep it.
