Serious Flaw in Ooma Technology

Post by gvccooma » Mon Nov 18, 2024 11:36 am

I have an important business line in my home office which I converted from AT&T to Ooma wireless.

My network is rock solid with about 15 devices on line connected both wireless, and Ethernet.

This morning I noticed again the flashing red Ooma logo on my office phone, no dial tone.

Over the last several months this has happened intermittently about 3 or 4 times where the unit disconnects, flashes red.

I unplugged the controller, rebooted, and back to service.

However, if you are away from your office, and this happens you are out of business.

This is a serious flaw, since Ooma with their Smart Phone app provides no way to tell when your device is off line, or how to reboot it remotely to restore service.

They admit this flaw. This needs to be fixed by Ooma. I am concerned about this happening again when I am not near the Ooma controller. Comments????

There may be a serious flaw somewhere, between the Ooma Telo (?), LAN, router/modem, ISP, WAN, or Ooma servers, but a universal pronouncement should require more concrete evidence. Most users don't have this problem, which would seem to suggest an issue with the local equipment or network, for those who do.

Is this for Ooma Office, or for Ooma Home phone service? Wouldn't Ooma Office have better SLAs? What kind of office phone has a backlit Ooma logo on it? If someone were away from their office, wouldn't incoming calls go to voicemail anyway, whether the base station was online or not?

What exactly did Ooma say about this flaw? Did they suggest any troubleshooting steps, such as checking for blocked ports, router/modem settings, or network diagnostics? Is the base station still under warranty? If it's defective, then perhaps they could replace it.
