can I make main Ooma number a GV virtual number?

Both my husband and I want to use Google Voice to distribute our calls to our Ooma phone and our respective cell phones. I finally have my GV number linked with my Ooma virtual number using GV extensions so my number is the outgoing Caller ID. I want to do the same for my husband using the Ooma primary number. Has anyone done this? I know I can buy a third number but do not understand why I would when I could use the primary number.
