I tried last week for 2 hours to vote for an Americal idol it is a 866 number 1-866-436-57xx. All I got was a busy signal. I chalked it up as a lot of callers and I couldn't get through. Last night I tried again. Busy all the time. I then tried my cell phone and I was able to get though EVERY time. I tried about 50 times. My wife was using the cell and I was using Ooma. She got through every time and I never was able to.
I called support and I dont know if they can help. Has anybody else had this problem?

Many years ago I tried calling a radio station number 50 or more times to try to win a prize. Each time, I would get a busy. We didn't have cell phones back then, so I couldn't try using one, but every once and a while they would announce a winner so I know that some were getting through. I never could so I never won the 2 night Surf and Sail vacation package that Motel 6 was giving to their Presidential Suite in Cincinatti. But I did get one of the free turkeys the station dropped from the sky on Thanksgiving. In fact, it took me about 4 hours to dislodge it from my Corvair's hood.

Or maybe your post just brought back fond and possibly distorted memories of contests from yesteryear :)

It is April 1 after all. Sounds like an episode of "WKRP in Cincinnati" where Les Nessman dropped live turkeys from an airplane because he thought they could fly.

According to the ooma terms and conditions...

ooma may choose to block toll calls or charge the customer for reimbursement of charges associated with calls to phone chat services, 900 numbers, or calls to cast votes or hear recorded messages (such as those promoted in connection with reality TV shows, radio contests, or celebrity-sponsored recordings) if such calls result in atypical termination costs and/or surcharges.

I guess they block American Idol votes.

I think American Idol should use the "Simon Save" to bring back Felicia Barton!

Good find. I didn't think anybody reads that. I wonder why they would block that- if thats what they did. It must be about bandwidth or something.

If in fact they do block American Idol votes, it would probably be to save on termination fees. Many Idol fans will vote 500 times in two hours. Ooma would have to pay the termination fees for those calls.
