Dial Tone at the End of Voice Messages

Post by Apotheosis » Mon Apr 11, 2016 1:09 pm

I am currently using cordless Panasonic handsets (Model No.: KX-TGA101CS) with Ooma. I noticed that each time a caller leaves a voice message, I would hear 3-4 seconds of dial tone at the end of the recorded message. I have read around on the forums that there have been fixes and that users should contact Ooma support regarding "disconnect times". Can an Ooma rep please make the necessary adjustments to my Ooma Telo unit to resolve this problem?

Thanks.

There is a software option that allows the Telo to drop battery when a caller hangs up (turns off the voltage on the line for a brief time). Conventional landline phones have done this for years. Many devices (like your Panasonic phone) detect this battery drop and hang up an answering machine call or disconnect if the line was on hold.

According to the updates section of this forum, this software option can be turned on BY REQUEST to customer service. Give it a try! My Telo has this option enabled and it works great!

Apotheosis, that option was enabled on your telo on 3/23.

Hi Tom, I didn't know that option was already enabled on my telo. Problem is, I still hear the dial tone at the end of voice messages right now. Is there something I need to do on my end?

I think the option is enabled on mine as well. I still hear the dial tone like you for a few seconds after the caller hangs up from leaving a message. Panasonic handsets as well here.

Apotheosis, please try again. Changed the disconnect time on your telo from 650 to 900ms. A reboot will restore the original value.

This has always been an irritation for me also. Could I please have that option setup on my system?

Thank you

Tom, I just tested my telo and the dial tone is still present for 3-4 seconds at the end of the voice message.

In addition, you said a reboot will restore original values - does this mean everytime I reboot the telo unit (due to connection issues or power outage), I would need to contact Ooma support to reconfigure the disconnect times again?

Thanks.

Bobs41185 , done

Apotheosis, changed the disconnect time on your telo to 1500ms. If needed we'll make this param configurable in user space.
