OOMA in China - unstable
I have been working in China very often and OOMA stopped working since last winter. Today, I plugged in and it shows connected but I cannot make any phone calls. It will disconnect itself a few seconds after I picked up my phone. Is there firewall issues or something different? can I do some tweaking on the OOMA hub?
Update: I am currently in China. If I dial my ooma, ooma will ring and it will disconnect itself when I pick it up. I cannot dial out at all as it disconnect itself automatically.

Re: OOMA in China - unstable
The ISP that you are using is very likely blocking the ports needed for the data transfer connection.
Is the phone service in China owned by the government? If so, they probably block anything that would provide competition.

The ISP is blocking many things for sure, including many websites. But it would work occasionally. So the rings and voice are using different ports? I checked status on my ooma, it shows phone and hub are connected.

Wait until Tom B sees this thread. He can tell you exactly what the problem is by looking at the logs. If you can provide the exact date and time in UTC of a failed call it makes it easier for him to find it in the logs.

Re: OOMA in China - unstable
sorry to bring up an old post.
Aug 18 Update: seems to be working in the past few days. Not sure why. Maybe Ooma fixed sth or the Chinese goverment looses up a little bit?

Re: OOMA in China - unstable
I have the same flashing red in Shanghai. If it does eventually turn solid blue, then it goes to flashing red as soon as I pick up the receiver. The amount of time that Ooma is stable is <5%. I have unplugged and restarted many times. thoughts?
Re: OOMA in China - unstable
The local government is probably blocking the path back to the Ooma server in California. Is there a state sponsored phone company that doesn't like competition?

Did your Ooma app work? I'm going to be living more in Suzhou and need better access to my US dial tone so customers don't know where I'm at
Re: OOMA in China - unstable
Can you confirm that Ooma can still be used by connecting directly to router in China?
