Ooma Telo2 Update 332188 & HD3 Bugs

Post by pamelaantonacci » Fri Aug 10, 2018 9:07 pm

So the HD3 handset experience so far has been pretty sub par. The new update that was pushed seems to finally fix the problem with the handsets not ringing consistently... Meaning my phones finally all ring at the same time. However, the HD3's are still suffering from major bugs, & a lot of work needs to be done... The charge indicator will randomly drop to 50% after 1 single use / phone call, & then will never recover back to 100 till hours later. If you hold the off button to manually turn off the HD3 handset, & then power back on the handset. Most of the time after you see "OOMA LOGO" you will see "connecting" flash on the screen for a second. Then.. the handset just powers off causing you to have to restart it again till it finally boots up. Also while I was on several calls since this new update i've been talking to someone, & all of a sudden the person was disconnected. The HD3's would still be counting up as if it was still connected. I got an email notification from the person who left a VM as I was supposedly still talking to him lol. Another problem has to do with the dual line function / Instant Second Line... I'm noticing that the 1/2 on the top of the screen next to the battery is glitchy. You could pick up a phone in lets say your Kitchen, & that will activate Line 1 causing the 1 to appear near the battery then you hang up. That 1 is supposed to disappear lol.... a lot of times it sticks or you have to press the green button, & then it glitches because it says join call but there isn't any other call to join. I hope that all these problems are still being worked on because when I called into OOMA I was shocked to find out that they haven't heard of any problems. Well I have had multiple Telo 2 units sent to me for replacement because I insisted there is a problem, & I have 4 handsets that are all acting the same way.. I will say I do like to use all the features OOMA has to offer. I use the custom ringtone feature, & I have a bluetooth adapter connected to my iPhone X. I don't know if that is whats killing these phones but really that should be tested.

May I suggest that you get the Ooma Linx and a set of 2 line cordless phones? I use Panasonic. I have the Line 1 jack plugged into the Telo and the Line 2 jack on the base station plugged into the Linx. That way I have two lines. The Linx gets much better reviews than the Ooma handsets. Also, with the Panasonic, I can set a different ringtone for callers that are programmed into the phone.

I totally hear you on that... I actually used to have that setup.. It's just I wanted to use the OOMA online phone book,Call screening of voicemail through the handset's (Voicemail monitoring), Picture Caller-ID.. It's sad that a phone company can't make a working phone especially on the third revision of the model  =(

I probably would have gone with the HD handsets too if four were not the maximum, there was a headphone jack, talking caller ID, and not so many bugs. I believe that they are made by VTech. Too bad that Panasonic was not designing them.

So some OOMA Customer Care "specialist" contacted me about a week ago & asked me how the update was... I basically copied & pasted this whole forum post into the email as my reply.... no response. I have decided to downgrade back to the HD2's since I hope since they've been out longer they are hopefully more stable... Before I do that I'd like to provide two dropbox video links to video's showing some problems with the HD3's maybe if I post them here it will get to the right people...... I can't take this crappy junky phone.... honestly whoever created it should be fired lol cause honestly they created a phone that you can't use........ heres another video : https://www.dropbox.com/s/5bew1ltmarcwh ... 7.m4v?dl=0 this video shows what we basically deal with every morning. I feel bad for people who aren't technically inclined because I would be thinking it's something I was doing meanwhile its OOMA's crappy product.

I have 3 HD3 handsets and one wired receiver. At random times all the of the HD3 go dead. They do not ring on incoming calls, cannot make outgoing calls. The menu is dead. The wired receiver meanwhile is still working. My solution: Unplug the OOMA power cord for several seconds and then plug it back in. The OOMA Telo reboots and all is well for maybe a week.

My advice to you is, send the three HDs back. Instead buy a nice Panasonic cordless phone system. If you have Premier and want two lines, get a two-line cordless system along with a Linx.

I can't believe all the problems being reported on the HD3's. I have 2 HD3's, 1 HD2, and a linx. The HD3's all work fine and ring every time. My only complaint is the terrible quality speaker. You can barely understand the other person when using the speaker phone feature. I also wish the "soft" keys were voicemail and DND instead of redial like on the HD2. There is some mention in the instructions about the"soft" keys configuring themselves automatically. What does that mean?

So it is sad to me that it seems like a major product such as the HD3 handsets keep being skipped over in the latest software updates when lord knows they need a lot more polish. In the latest software release 376877.. Nothing is being addressed with the HD3 handsets  ... As it currently is.. The HD3's are unreliable with the battery display / battery dropping to 50% after 1 use.. meanwhile the handset has been charging for the whole day. I have had all four of my handsets act as if they are connected only to not work if I press the green talk button or try to join an existing call.. they literally just don't connect. Voicemail screening will stop working through the handsets, & only continue to work through the Telo base. The experience so far has been atrocious, & the troubleshooting seems to be just sending replacement phones. I really hope that eventually you fix the problems. So far I can't recommend this product.
