10 Digit Dialing

Recently got an email from Ooma describing the 10 digit dialing requirement that goes into effect in October. It says you can immediately begin using 10 digit dialing to call a number in the same area code as the Telo. But its wrong. When I try this I get a "number not in service" recording. But if I dial ONE plus the area code and number the call goes through. So calling this "10 digit dialing" is incorrect. It's ELEVEN digit dialing.

I've been using 10 digit dialing for years. Go into your online account and enable it.

What do I do if I cannot enable 10 digit dialling?
I log into my account and go to the 'system' section, click on 'enable 10 digit dialling', and get a reply that 'the server cannot be reached, try again later'. But this happens over and over again, even with days between attempts.

Thanks.

I got an email today about 10 digit dialing being required for my phone number starting in October. However my area code is not included / required to do this based on the FCC listing.

Anyone else run into this inconsistency?

Thanks in advance.

Area code 509 will require 10-digit dialing for local calls beginning in October. We have been able to optionally use 10 digits when dialing local calls since April. https://www.utc.wa.gov/news/2021/10-dig ... code-april

Ooma is not currently handling 10-digit local calls correctly in our area. A call to 555-1234 will work fine. A call to 509-555-1234 will fail with a disconnected message. The number shows up in the log as 509-509-5551 which is not right. Apparently Ooma is not parsing the 10-digit local phone number correctly.

The "10 digit dialing" setting in Preferences doesn't seem to have an impact.

What's the best way to get Ooma technical support to look at this issue?

It's not October yet. Wait until then to see if it works.
Meantime try 11 digit dialing 1-509-555-1234.
If that doesn't work call Ooma support.

This thread discusses two separate issues, with regard to 10-digit dialing:
  1. 10-digit dialing vs. 1+10-digit dialing: The My Ooma System Preferences option makes dialing a '1' before the area code optional, but it can also affect how 7-digit dialing works.
  2. 10-digit dialing vs. 7-digit dialing: Some areas may require dialing 10 digits instead of 7 digits for external reasons, such as area code overlays, or conflicts with easily recognizable codes.
Between Ooma and other carriers, keeping track of the minimum number of digits it takes to complete a given call can be a hassle. However, 1+10-digit dialing seems to work for all of my domestic calls, whether local or long distance, so I just use that everywhere.

I also got an email regarding mandatory 10-digit dialing, even though my area had already required it for well over a decade now, due to area code overlays. Maybe Ooma just sent the email out to everyone, or maybe they just decided to implement it now for all of their users, whether they needed to or not.

Indeed dialing 1 before a local 10-digit number does work (for example 1-509-555-1234). Hopefully ooma will get 10-digit dialing for local numbers working soon.

I emailed Ooma asking why we got the email when our area code isn’t listed on the FCC site as needing to change. Ooma says ALL Ooma customers need to change regardless.

I haven’t tried the 10 digit yet based on the posts in this thread saying it doesn’t work.

It seems really onerous to have to do 11 digits. I don’t know anyone in the US that has to put a 1 in front of every 10 digit number.

10 digit dialing has worked fine for me on Ooma since 2009.
