Ooma Logo Light Is Blank But System Works

Post by sutcliffed » Thu Dec 30, 2021 3:05 pm

Over the last month or so, my Ooma Tele will receive a call, but it is garbled. I go the base unit and the Logo is blinking Red. I unplug the power cord for 15 seconds and plug it back in and the unit reboots and the flashing Red light quits blinking (it is blank no light! Not the normal Blue color). The unit can then make and receive calls however; the Logo light is still blank, not Blue. The Ethernet ports has a solid green and a blinking orange light. The four lights on the bottom row plus the trash and mail lights and the line number 2 light are all Blue.
Quick Question.
1. Why does the unit work when the blue Logo light is blank? Note, I have turned up the light setting on the unit to the highest value.
2. Why every week the Telo unit goes through this same fault process. This is an older Ooma Telo unit is maybe 6 years old. Is my Ooma Telo just starting to fail?

The logo on my old Telo is only lit on the right side.
I suspect that what ever they are using for the blue light has burned out.

The power adapter may be failing on your Telo.
If you have the equipment and are technically inclined you can test it.

For example assume that it has a 5 volt 2 ampere power supply.
I'm guessing, the actual values are on the power adapter.

5 volts divided by 2 amps = 2.5 ohms.
Placing a 2.5 ohm 10 watt resistor across the supply output will put the maximum load on it.
The voltage should stay at 5 volts. If it drops significantly the supply has failed and should be replaced.
