Fax: *98 or *99?

*98 Use high-bandwidth codec (G711) for this phone call
*99 Optimize phone call for fax transmissions

Which should be used for fax? Is it even needed in 2022?

can you send a fax with either of them?
I can't and support is useless.

on the website, it clearly says I can connect with a splitter but support want to sell me a linx.
I don't want to buy more from Ooma.
It simply worked with Comcast with the same splitter.

*98 no longer works for me. When I dial *98 followed by another 8 (first digit of area code) my fax immediately is connected to the suicide hotline (988). :?

@lepa71. I only use this line for fax without splitter. Both *98 and *99 work. I am not sure if makes difference though.

@gellenb. Does your fax machine allow "Fax Prefix" function? That will allow either *98 or *99 automatically. Did you try with +1 country code? I am dialing *98 1 (country code) xxx (area code) xxxxxxx (phone number).
