Phone hangs-up if the other side is quiet / silent

This issue has appeared on the forum a few times over the years without a good answer.

For international calls, at least, if the other party is quiet for more than about 15 seconds Ooma hangs-up the call. This happens every time I make a call. The same numbers work OK when I call from a non-Ooma 'phone.

It's not an impossible problem to work around as my Dad likes to talk, but when I get an extended word in I get cut off!

Has anyone experience this, and a fix?

That seems like a carrier issue which only Ooma could investigate. As a workaround though, how loud does the other side need to be? Maybe some background noise could help, from something like a metronome, grandfather clock, tabletop fountain, fish tank, etc. Father's Day is just around the corner.
