Can I set outbound number-only caller ID with premier

Post by ToastyNerd » Thu Jul 20, 2023 5:37 pm

With Ooma Premier it appears my outbound caller ID options are to send my name or "blocked".
On the other side the phone displays "private number"

Is there a way to send just the number for outbound caller ID, no name?

In the U.S., providers only send the Caller ID number for outgoing calls, not the name. It is up to the remote provider receiving the incoming call to use the number to look up the name; Ooma can't stop that. Ooma can customize the Caller ID name, but they do state that it must include "part of your first and last name".

I'm using the Ooma as a door dialer for an apartment building.
Thus the best caller ID would be "XXXX Main Street" or the name of the building.

What the recipients are actually seeing is "Private number" which indicates the phone number did not come through. Why would this be?
  • Best: name of the building
  • Bad: Generic "ooma incorporated" caller ID
  • OK: Generic "private number"
  • OK: outgoing phone number
I have the service address set to the building address. The ooma rules say "Caller-ID names must include your business name or part of your first and last name. "

Update:
Oooma support happily set the outbound caller ID to the name of the building.
For a fee of $24.
