The past few months I've gotten over a dozen complaints of people calling us saying that after a few seconds of leaving a voicemail that their call is dropped and their unable to finish leaving their message and they have to call back to try it again. They only get a few seconds in some cases.
I check voice mail sometimes and its the same person multiple times trying to get their message in. Its intermittent though because I'll also have voicemails near the same time that are complete with no issues.
A few times I got voicemails with people saying that they didn't hear any voice mail. That the call goes strait for ringing to leaving a message.

I had it happen to me two days ago. A family member called and she was cut off midway through her message. I read in another post that a period of silence can trigger the end of a voice message, but this wasn't the case here. She was talking when it happened. The length of the message she did leave wasn't all that long -- less than a minute.
What is supposed to be the maximum length a voice mail message can be?

I think it is 5 minutes.
An asterisk (*) will immediately terminate voice mail.
The Ooma system sometimes detects touchtones in a human voice.
It happens to female voices much more often than male voices.
If Ooma detects an * while the caller is speaking to voice mail, the voice mail will be terminated and discarded.
5 seconds of silence will also terminate a voice mail call but the voice mail should be saved in that case.
