Contacts - phone# displayed in list

When multiple phone numbers are entered for a contact, how does Contacts choose which one is displayed in the list? I'd like to be able to choose which number displays as I can in my Palm Treo. Maybe a mouse-over of the phone# on the list could even expand to show all of the numbers entered for that contact, although I suppose there's not much advantage to that over just clicking on the contact to see the entered info.
