Faxing -what machines work?

Post by trim81 » Wed Aug 06, 2008 11:25 am

I am coming from Net2Phone, and before my pci modem (internal PC), and Brother MFC-5440CN ALL In One worked fine..

With Ooma, the faxes will not send nor recieve.

Anyone here have any sucessful brand/model Fax Machines you are currently using?

I need both a working standalone and an internal pci computer modem.

thanks in advance

I use a SHARP UX-B800SE and it works great. As long as I dial *99+Phone Number everything works perfectly. This fax machine also has a feature to forward faxes to your email if you plug it into your router.

On another thread I found someone said they dial *99 before the number and their fax through Ooma worked. My faxes through Ooma did not work. I tried the *99 and it worked fine. Some fax machines may have a problem with the Ooma individual dial tone sound on start-up and it may mess the header up on the fax info. Seems that *99 turns off some elements and clears the way for a clear data send. I have not recieved yet though. I will try that later. Sending works for me if I put *99 before the number I dial, give it a try.

Yep, the *99 works. I kept receiving line errors with my fax (a Sharp UX-355LR). Then I tried prefixing the dialed number with *99 and it worked fine.

My Brother 7820N all in one printer fax machine works fine.

Just sent a fax to my Doctors office.

*99 turns off the compression of data

My Brother MFC-9840CDW seems to work fine with Ooma. I've always used the *99 for outgoing.

The alternative is to use box.net for outgoing.

Having the fax machine plugged into a scout, I can recieve faxes. But sending them is difficult. I wish I could find a simple fax that would work, complicating the situation is that I have 2 lines, one for the house the other I would like to be a dedicated fax or fax and voice line. Why cant this work?

The fax machine is supposed to be plugged into the hub.
