Does anyone know if I can use Mobile on my Xoom? When I go in to the Android Market, it won't even find Ooma though I was able to find it on my Android phone. It would be nice to be able to make calls on the tablet computer using the wireless link.

When an app doesn't show up in the Android Market on one device but does on another, it's by design. See this article for the discussion but essentially an info file in the application allows the Market to filter out incompatible apps. http://developer.android.com/guide/prac ... ility.html

If it's being filtered out, it would seem unlikely that it will be supported - the Xoom runs on a very capable but non-standard version of Android (3.0 / Honeycomb). Honeycomb currently has about 2.4% of the Android installed base. The Android Market caters to the 50% of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and, to a lesser extent, the 35% of Android 2.2 (Froyo) users. The Amazon Fire might someday attract enough users for OOMA to support it (running on 2.3) although Amazon might have to sign off on it first to make it available for download. Of course there's also the iPad, but you probably already ruled that out when you bought your Xoom.

Here's an article that might shed some more light on the installed base dilemma: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/11 ... onths.html It's written from the Apple perspective but the charts are illuminating and (I would expect, but cannot verify) are based on industry data. The issues discussed are definitely going to need to be fixed for Android to be more successful in the tablet space, people don't expect to replace their tablets every couple of years like they do with their smartphones.
