Scout Discontinued

As I understand the scout is no longer being produced. I have a scout set up downstairs for my mother to use with it's own phone number. I am a premier subscriber. If the scout is no longer manufactured, what happens when the scout goes dead such as sustaining a lightning strike?? What are the alternatives??
