ooma on BBB -- should it be a concern?

Post by Neubiee » Tue Apr 28, 2009 9:53 am

I came across ooma's grade on BBB. Not so good.. its a F! Here is the link:

http://sanjose.bbb.org/businessreport.a ... yid=237333

Looks like they got a F for not responding to couple of complaints.

For a potential customer a big F on BBB may not be comforting! Unless they check out amazon.com reviews or this forum.

I think the BBB used to provide a good service. Today anyone who doesn't have everything they dream of for free can click off a complaint to the BBB.

Before taking the ratings too seriously take a look at this thread - http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r222406 ... Jack-maker

Thanks for bringing this to attention -- I've asked our support manager to see if we can find and address the two BBB complaints.

I think it says you've addressed one complaint already.

Eventually Ooma may be listed on Epinions, where many go for independent reviews. Of late Amazon has done a great service by allowing fair (even if critical) reviews of products and services.

If I read the BBB site correctly, there is one complaint which Ooma hasn't responded to, and you are getting an F.

If you look at the dslr link to the MagicJack thread, you'll see that MagicJack went from an F- to an A in about a month.

I no longer trust the BBB. I trust google, Amazon reviews and Epinion reviews.

There is also dslreports reviews, which can be found here (for Ooma) - http://www2.dslreports.com/comments/3322

I think anyone can review Ooma at the above link. The more reviews, the more helpful it will be for future potential customers.

ONLY TWO bad comments on the BBB? Hell that is really good. Should be and A. Great company, Great service, and they listen to their customers. They made a HUGE improvement in customer service in the last few months.

Hey Wayne - No worries. I didn't think you were referring to me. Wasn't sure if there was some other post out there bashing our beloved product.

As far as I am concerned, the BBB is useless. There might have been a day when consumers looked to the BBB to champion their complaints, but that day is long past. As far as the rating is concerned, read it carefully. There really isn't much of any substance. Instead it consists of a series of inuendos which may or may not apply to the particular business. Here is some interesting reading on the Better Business Bureau and its recently implemented rating system:
http://www.pr-inside.com/better-busines ... 218025.htm

Remember, BBB is a membership organization. Their two most important rules are found in the last two paragraphs of their Accreditation Standards:

I've learned a lot here... two months ago I didn't even know how to spell VOIP and now I are one.
