Hello Tom,

Could you pleas also help me set up the <4 second voicemail automatic deletion? I would appreciate it greatly.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Is this going to be a feature that we can set ourselves, or is it something that must be done by ooma support? I would also love to have messages automatically deleted that are <4s.

Thanks,
Dorothy

As the troublemaker who started this thread, I 'd just like to say that this feature has made a big difference for me, and significantly increased my positive feelings about Ooma. I think it will be great when it finally gets added to MyOoma so people can set whatever limit they like. Mine is set at 3 seconds, but I'd like to play with it a bit, and see how short I can go without getting empty voicemails. My guess is that 2 seconds would work well. That would prevent the loss of really short legitimate voicemails that I sometimes get from friends, where they just say who they are and hang up, it being understood that you're supposed to call back.

An even better solution that I mentioned in the beginning is to test each voicemail, no matter how long it is, for the presence of human speech. Any message that contains only silence, or clicks and pops, or dialtone, would be deleted. Ooma could implement that automatically for everyone, and nothing need be added to MyOoma. I don't think the technology needed to implement this is all that difficult. After all, my ancient telephone answering machines, even the ones using cassettes, did it quite well.
