Calling with my Google Voice number?

Post by nyforever » Fri Jan 08, 2010 2:06 pm

Hello,

Is it possible to call through my Google Voice number?

Say Ooma's number is: 111-1111, and my Google Voice number is 222-2222.

Google Voice is set up so that if someone calls 222-2222, it forwards to my cell phone, as well as my Ooma's number (111-1111). My cell phone is set up (using Google Voice app) to call anyone while showing the 222-2222 number (for example, if I call my friends with my cell phone, they will see 222-2222 instead of my real cell phone number).

Is it possible to do this with Ooma/home phones? I want to be able to hide my number (111-1111), and let the caller ID show 222-2222 to whomever I call.

Thanks.

Not possible automatically as far as I know but according to early reports it will be as part of the Google Voice Extensions which when released will require Premier. Not sure of the timeframe.

There is a workaround. Since your ooma number is set up in your GV account, from your ooma phone, call your GV number. It will answer with an announcement regarding new messages and have you press 2 if you want to make a call. Press the 2, then dial the 10 digit number followed by the # button. That will ring the persons phone and display your GV number. The CNAM will be unavailable, but your ooma number will be hidden. You could set up a speed dial to call the GV number but the rest will be manual. Hope this helps.

Actually you can set up a speed dial if you have a modern phone system by inserting a PAUSE and saving it.

EX; GV# PAUSE option 2 PAUSE Desired #

222-222-2222P2P333-333-3333

Just takes a little extra time to dial and connect but it works!
