Pretty quick it's just going to be easier, and less complicated to just add a add on line to your existing Cell service then connect that to a gateway to your existing home phone system. There are other viable solutions.

Phone service and cable TV service are somewhat at the same junction. Things are moving to better and cheaper solutions, and less complicated.

I love my TiVo and watch about 99% of my programming through it. I pay a lifetime subscription on two boxes and I wouldn't be without it. Not so with the Ooma Telo. While I like my Ooma, I'm not loving it. Will I ever get there with their existing business model, I highly doubt it.

What is this 'caller ID deluxe'? I have never heard of this tem until I read it in the Ooma forums. Is this something that Ooma conjured up to siphon off bits and pieces from what we all know as 'Caller ID'?

So is it true:
Premier gets you: Callers Name and Incoming Number
Basic gets you: Incoming number only
Sorry, I didn't post that correctly. I was referring to my post in this thread, where I said:
bw1 wrote: My last AT&T bill from March 2009 has two separate detail lines:
Caller Identification $7.86
Calling Name Display $2.09

That comes to about the same price per month as Premier and I get a lot of additional features that weren't even available from AT&T.
I'm only trying to point out that others also split out caller id and CNAM (caller id with name).

From what I understand, CNAM dips (retrieval of caller id name from a third party database) cost money to the service provider (in this case Ooma). Something like $0.005 for each. So apparently, they decided that they couldn't continue to provide that without ongoing revenue, which is why it's only available with Premier. Eventually, entries in contacts are supposed to give you the caller's name from that list rather than CNAM. That will help to some degree for those with basic service.

Seems to me that you should have bought the Ooma Core (Hub + Scout). You would get CNAM, and some other features with the core service over basic service and you wouldn't require a credit card or to opt out of Premier with an activation of the Core. Of course, you wouldn't be able to get it at Costco (they had it last year, but not anymore).

It's all fine, but it's just a little more complicated than I thought, and I'm just looking for less complicated, and that's why I selected the Ooma Telo. It appeared that when buying the Telo that I was or should have been done paying phone fees. There are still fees associated with it, along with a few minor annoyances.

I think there are some good things coming in the near future regarding Phone and TV choices. For me I can always go back to square one and start over. That's one of the good things about buying certain things from Costco. Sometimes it takes several months to really get the full impact of what you have actually bought.

Well,I believe that the majority of VOIP service providers include just about or everythhing they have in the plan.
Vonage for $9.99 a month - Standard Feature List:

Vonage Visual Voicemail »
Caller ID with Name »
Call Waiting »
Vonage Voicemail Plus »
Call Transfer »
Call Waiting with Caller ID »
Vonage Online Account »
Network Availability Number »
Enhanced Call Forwarding »
SimulRing »
3-Way Calling »
Caller ID Block »
Call Return »
Do Not Disturb »
Anonymous Call Block »
Repeat Dialing »
International & Directory Assistance Block »
Call Hunt »
Ring Lists »
Vonage Access Number »
Bandwidth Saver »
Click-to-Call »
211 Calling »
311 Calling »
411 Calling »
511 Calling »
711 Calling »
811 Calling »
1-700-WEATHER »
1-700-GREETINGS »
Refer-A-Friend »
Money Back Guarantee »
Move Your Number »
Number for Life ¤ »
In-Network Calling »
24/7 Customer Support »
The above is all standard features no matter what you get: Maybe Ooma should un-complicate their business and for the basic subscribers limit the number of minutes on the plan like Vonage does. Say 400 minutes a month, restrict calling to the US, charge for international calling, allow unlimited talk between Ooma Telo devices, and unblock all the features of the Premier tier for everyone. Vonage doesn't include VM to email translation and Visual VM to the $9.99 tier, and there is no reason why Ooma couldn't restrict a feature or two along the same line for their Premier tier.

I have an Ooma Core (Hub+Scout) that is ending the premier trial soon. When I asked if my caller-ID would contain incoming names on Ooma Core service the Ooma customer service rep said that incoming names is a premier service. I went back and forth on this with the customer service rep and she was adamant that names would not be included.

Can anyone confirm if the customer service rep is right or what these forums list (CID + name is part of Ooma Core) is right?

CS is mistaken.

I second that. I've had the Ooma Hub for months without Premier and CID+name works just fine.

Caller-ID with name is included with Core and Premier Services Tiers. Anonymous Call Reject is also listed as a Premier feature on the Premier page, but Core users have access to it as well.

We'll add a KB article with a break-down of the features available to each service tier. Hopefully we should have it published soon.

JustDad wrote:The caller ID -w- name for the Basic Hub service is a nice draw, but the one thing I am finding I cannot live without is the Blacklist feature (Premier Service Only). In three weeks I've accumulated 9 telemarketers to my Blacklist. It is amazing how much quieter the house is at night now, and yes, I am on the no-call list.
I've had Ooma for two years now. I have about 90 numbers in my blacklist. I am on the DO NOT CALL list too. I really like the service. If Ooma ever went away, I'd probably just do without the landline all together. Ooma does a great job. There's no reason to ever go to another service for me. :D

You guys need to look at how Vonage distributes their services and that may give you a better idea of how Omma should be doing it. It has to be a nightmare is seperating all these features, especially when your taking one feature and slicing and dicing it up so it can be paired with a premier service.
