Ooma SIP configuration for OBI2182 desk phones
Hi,
I came over to Ooma recently (a few days ago) primarily because of the shutdown of ObiTALK. This blog post from Tim Sullivan (VP Sales at Ooma) is what drew me to using Ooma as an successor to ObiTALK.

I bought an Ooma Telo and have it set up and it seems to be working pretty well, and I have some handsets connected to it via the RJ-11 port.
But I also have two OBI2182 desk phones that are SIP capable that I was using with ObiTALK. The 2182 is a really nice and quite capable desk phone, and in the past I believe it was compatible with Ooma via configuring it through the ObiTALK configuration portal.
But, since the ObiTALK portal has been shut down, now it is necessary to configure SIP by hand on devices like the OBI2182. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or instructions on doing this, since it would be a shame to have to literally throw those OBI2182 phones into a landfill. I'd much rather keep using them as additional phones connected to my Ooma account.
Thanks!
Perry

Re: Ooma SIP configuration for OBI2182 desk phones
Although the Ooma Telo may talk to their servers using (possibly modified) SIP protocol, the interface is proprietary. Standard SIP devices can't be used with Ooma's servers and likewise, the Telo can't be configured to interface to other standard SIP service providers.
The Ooma handsets and Linx use DECT protocol between them and the Telo but again, this is a proprietary interface. You can't connect other DECT handsets to the Telo and Ooma handsets can't be used with other DECT base stations.
Therefore, it's very unlikely that your OBI2182 phones will be usable with Ooma. Assuming that the OBI2182 uses standard SIP protocol and is fully configurable, if you wanted to continue to use them it may have been better to subscribe to a standard SIP service instead of using Ooma.
