Scout with basic service?

It's not clear to me what function(s) my Scout will have with basic service. Of course I'm in my free trial of Premier right now, and some of the features are very impressive (instant second line is amazing), but we really only need ooma as a back-up to our cell phones (so I don't have to carry my cell phone with me throughout the entire house, at all times).

What I am most curious about is will the Scout still show me I have a message and allow me to listen to it? Since my FiOS "modem" (and WAP) is upstairs, I like the idea of having a Scout downstairs to see the status. Also our older home has no network wiring, so if I need to move the hub, I also need to run Cat5 to a new location - ugh!

Thanks for your help.

Eric

The scout makes a wonderful voicemail station even with basic service.

Awesome... That's all I need.

Thank you!
