How does porting cause this? I've ported numbers before and not seen this.lbmofo wrote:Not the case. It is happening because you ported your home phone number.jerseysgt wrote:Makes me wonder if ooma somehow makes these numbers available.

I don't know the process but when I ported my number I got mailings and coupons from several local stores welcoming me to the neighborhood. I even received a short subscription to the local newspaper.

I know with AT&T you can make your number unlisted. Mine was not before I ported it. I'm sure it no longer shows up in the AT&T telephone book but does our number, when ported to Ooma, show up on some other directory?

Ooma does not publish your number in any directory.
My number was ported from Verizon to Vonage to Ooma.
My number is still in what today passes for the white pages.
Verizon no longer publishes a residential phone directory.
It is only available online.

Re: Huge Increase in Telemarketers AFTER switching to Ooma
My Ooma experience has been bitter sweet.
We had a 30 some year old number which we ported to Ooma. Omma voice quality has been great and I can make calls just fine.
However, the exact moment we ported our number to Ooma, we started getting Telemarketers and it has only increased in the two years we have had Ooma. It has gotten so bad that we pretty much leave Ooma diverted to voicemail. It's a major pain.
Severel here have asked Omma to please offer wildcard blocking but simply put, Omma refuses by giving excuses.

Re: Huge Increase in Telemarketers AFTER switching to Ooma
I just went out to whitepages.com and deleted my phone number information. I don't know if this is a major source of phone numbers for telemarketers or not, but if so, hopefully it will be curtailed now. I found a few other sites where my number could be found without paying for a report, which I don't think telemarketers would do, and I deleted all my personal information there too. Just google your name and don't forget the names of other who live or have lived at your number, they are all listed separately evidently.

This happened to me too.. at first it was just the 2nd line number.. but after a few weeks of keeping up with the block-list each and every time I'd get calls.. it's all but stopped.. I still get the usual suspects.. PBA, march of dimes, credit card services marketing, or some other donation seeking org, I usually just screen and let go to voice mail if I don't recognize the number.. if they're smart they'll just hang up and I'll flag the numer as it shows up on the web portal.

Thanks but this has been said before, I lost count.lbmofo wrote:joe123, I am sure you'll like this: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14441&start=10#p104235joe123 wrote:Severel here have asked Omma to please offer wildcard blocking but simply put, Omma refuses by giving excuses.
In my old job, when management wanted to drop a project, they added the line of "We are working on it".
To be fair, management would set aside 1/2 an hour once a year to work on that project so that we could honestly say "We are working on it".
I am sure and have no dought after many years of hearing Omma say that they are "Working on it", that they truely are!
Re: Huge Increase in Telemarketers AFTER switching to Ooma
This is the 1st time Ooma saying "working on it."
