Linx registered to the Ooma Office:
I connected the Linx device to my Dish box phone port.
I made an inbound call and the TV connected to Dish box displayed my caller ID on the TV.
But when I went into diagnostics and checked for a phone connection, the report back was "No Phone Connection". No matter what I tried I could not send data.

I reconnected the phone line back to the wall phone jack, disconnecting and setting the Linx device aside. Using the direct phone connection, I was able to send Dish TV diagnostics data.

Using the Linx device to send/receive information for the Dish TV box DOES NOT WORK, but it will display the caller ID of an Inbound call.

No. They pick the number that will be used.
The Telo has two pipes to the server. If neither pipe is in use pipe 1 is always used.
Pipe 2 is only used when pipe 1 is already busy.

Thanks for the explanation. I guess I'm still thinking in terms of 2 'physical' phone lines where each line comes in on a separate pair of wires while an Ooma line is more like a virtual circuit. Anyhow, it doesn't matter much to me which pipe is picked as long as it works like 2 separate lines, i.e. Incoming calls to one phone number should only ring those phones that phone number is assigned to (via telo box and Linx). Is this correct?
BTW. Linx is not a wireless device, right? Actual data is transmitted over electrical wires. The wireless part is only for pairing with the telo box. If this is true, can I plug Linx to an UPS? Or does it have to plug directly to an electrical outlet? I currently have my telo box on an UPS.

Do you mean do not assign the 1st number to the telo box? Why and what's the difference?

The Linx is a wireless device. It communicates with the Telo base via DECT 6 the same as an HD2 handset.
It can be connected to any source of 120 volt AC power including an UPS.

If you only have 2 numbers, once you assign your Linx to a private account (new group of devices) and assign your 2ndary number, your Telo will have to remain in the main account with your primary numer on it. All phones connected to the "phone" port and HD2s and Linx connected phone in the main account (main group of devices) would ring when primary number is called.

So let me get this straight.... The Linx works the same as the Old Ooma hub WITH the little Ooma scout. In that you could use the little scout (with a standard phone attached) as a second line if someone was on the hub, and you could answer using a regular phone attached to the little scout should a second call come in?

If the new Linx does this, i'll buy it! I never could understand why Ooma MADE you buy THEIR phone (which I really don't like at all) if you bought the Telo (which I did, with Premier).

So my question is, does the Linx act as the old Scout?

Yes.
The Scout connected to the hub via wires.
The Linx connects to the Telo via DECT 6 radio.

I just did a test setup, and the answer to your question is yes.

Must have Ooma Premier:
There is a multitude of things you can do with the Linx connected to the Ooma Telo in place of the forth HD2 handset.
You can answer an inbound call with the Linx connected phone.
You can make an outbound call with the Linx connected phone.
If someone is calling in on the second Omma Telo assigned phone number, while someone else is taking using the first Ooma Telo assigned phone number, you can answer that call using the Ooma Linx connected phone.
You can join a call with the Linx connected phone (have to Flash Linx connected phone).
You can answer a second inbound call with the Linx connected phone.
You can make an outbound call with the Linx connected phone, while some one else is talking on a previously established call.
Depending on the phone that you have connected to the Ooma Linx, you can conference a call using the Ooma Linx.

I am posting just what I tried. There are probably many more ways and things you can do while making and receiving calls.

Thanks a lot for your information. Now if only I could get a discount on renewing my Premier and buying the Linx. Been using Ooma for about 8 years and very happy so far!

I'm still a little bit fuzzy. Need to do more reading. I remember seeing something about assigning ooma devices on their web site (and some old threads) but couldn't find it anymore. Do you happen to know where I can find more information?
