Can I black-list an entire area code?
Read through this: https://www.ooma.com/app/support/person ... blacklists The bottom talks about wildcard.
Re: Can I black-list an entire area code?
that just refers to numbers within the Us, right? i'm wanting to block international numbers. if you call an international number you dont just dial 1+area code. there are country codes you have to dial too. if i just put an area code, wouldn't it just block the US numbers from that area code? how would it differentiate between US and international number? that link does not mention what you have to do to block other countries from calling.
Re: Can I black-list an entire area code?
For example, if country code is japan, you can block 81* but if this works, it would also block all calls from area codes that start with 81 so send it to VM in case you have legit calls coming from those numbers.

That's a great start but it would be much more helpful to be able to block callers by caller-id text.
This would make Ooma the BEST phone option there is!
Otherwise I see no benefit in keeping Ooma Premier and plan to cancel when it is time to renew since I have to logon frequently to block individual telemarketer phone numbers within my own area code .
I've seen posts from customers that are several years old, but the request seems to be ignored....

Re: Can I black-list an entire area code?
Hopefully, Ooma is working on the rest of the Blacklist Related Items: /viewtopic.php?t=15556lbmofo wrote:You can still make use of wildcard blacklisting for the local area codes as well.
For example, my immediate area codes include 206 and 425; many friends and family members have 206 & 425 numbers so I can't block the whole area code but I still block spam calls based on prefix (in some cases, prefix + 1 or 2 more digits). I set my treatment option to send to voicemail so don't have to worry about rejecting a legit call (so far hasn't happend yet; no legit person trying to reach me has left a message).
Examples:
2062577* Air Duct Cleaning Telemarketer
They've called from these numbers: (206) 257-7028 (206) 257-7822
2063884* Promotions Department Telemarketer
They've called from these numbers: (206) 388-4294 (206) 388-4335
2064960* Political Opinions of America Political Organization
They've called from these numbers: (206) 496-0484 (206) 496-0935 (206) 496-0950 (206) 496-0955 (206) 496-0986
2065352* Promotions Department Telemarketer
They've called from these numbers: (206) 535-2550 (206) 535-2551 (206) 535-2604
2068666* Alarm Sales Telemarketer
They've called from these numbers: (206) 866-6910 (206) 866-6990
4254370* WA FOP Telemarketer
They've called from these numbers: (425) 437-0548 (425) 437-0653 (425) 437-0657 (425) 437-0659
I exported (copy and paste) my blacklist to Excel to do analysis so I can come up with these blacklist entries.
Re: Can I black-list an entire area code?
Blacklist has been extremely helpful and I have over 150 numbers in mine. But would like suggest adding these two features. All the data is available, just the UI/Javascript needs tweaks.
1) Sort the Blacklist: numerically, date entered, and caller ID. This would help identify near duplicates.
2) Ability to use the wild card feature when blocking from Call Logs.
To illustrate the second point, in Incoming Calls I click on the (/) icon to open the Add To Blacklist box.
It shows:
Phone Number (201) 340-1006.
But I get lots of spam calls from (201) 340-10xx, so I would like to manually EDIT the field:
Phone Number (201) 340-1025 to
Phone Number 20134010*
But the Phone Number field cannot be edited. It needs to be editable.
So the only alternative is to write down the number, exit My Ooma Home, click Preferences, then Blacklists, then +Add To Blacklist, and finally enter 20134010*.
It would be a lot easier to just do it all in Call Logs, Add To Blacklist.
I do appreciate your efforts in making Ooma easier to use over the years. Thanks.

Re: Can I black-list an entire area code?
I'm still confused on how to block with the blacklist, calls and SPAM from India (international). Just this week, I continued to receive calls from:
Remote Number Caller-ID Name
+972-25315483 97225315483
+972-25315455 97225315455
Yet I have several entries in my Black List (since Sept 2013) with Wildcards being
972*
9722*
97225*
What is the proper way to clock these calls? I've read in the threads and FAQ's that you can drop the 'dialing prefix' but is the +972 the dialing prefix for international calls? Has anyone successfully been able to address this that is willing to help?
Thanks,
Dan

I wonder if the blacklist understands country codes at all. You might want to try 253154* as an entry and see what that gets you.
