iPhone Bluetooth with Ooma

So apparently, iPhone 5 Bluetooth (BT) to Ooma does not work or does not work for most users.
Has anyone discovered a workaround? Is it possible to link your iPhone via an iMac and then the iMac BT to the Ooma BT?
Has it been confirmed that the problem is Apple and not Ooma? If it is Apple, is the BT issue also a problem on other devices made by other companies? What is the problem if so? Has Apple addressed it or said they would address it? Is it a hardware problem or a software fix? Will an iOS update fix it (in theory)?
