Caller ID displayed on TV

Post by jfuller45 » Sun Dec 01, 2019 12:34 am

I am trying to setup Ooma on my father's wifi network so that the caller ID will display on his TV. He is cutting the cord and moving his landline from Comcast to Ooma. His current service with Xfinity displays the caller ID information on his TV when incoming calls are received, and I believe the caller ID information is being routed thru his set top box to his TV display.

Is there a way to do this or is this even possible to do? I should mention that he has a LG Smart TV and his new wifi service will be provided by Verizon FiOS using a G1100 router.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

There is no way to do that. It works with Comcast because it's the same network. There is no way to get 3rd party info to display on a Comcast box.

This looks to be an integration 'perk' offered by media cos. which provide both TV & phone services, each requiring their own specialized hardware. Other than a PC (w/ modem) running server/client SW, there don't seem to be many alternative options:

I used a Windows Media Center add-on that worked pretty well, but all of that is going end-of-life & never really was for the non-techy types anyway.

I have Dish Network. There is a phone jack on the back of the set-top box for caller ID. Works great. Because Comcast does not have a phone jack on their box, there is no way to funnel the caller ID info to the TV.

Something you could do is buy a https://caavo.com which has IFTTT integration. Every time a new call pops through it will overlay on top of the input the new call.. Im thinking of doing that =)
