Ooma v/s TK6000 ( Net talk)

Post by rakesh15 » Sat Oct 24, 2009 9:13 pm

TK6000 also works just like ooma, to be connected to directly with router/cablebox and needs no computer.

Draws power from elec. outlet, just like ooma. Can also be woked with computer/laptop, if no power source there.

One is only 99 dollars, while ooma is 249.

Does anyone have luck to testify and experiment both and can advise us of pros and cons??

( TK6000) This is an advanced version of magic jack and all errors have been repaired.

( No yearly fee of 19.99, like magic jack ) - Doubt - do they charge after 3 years ?? (

No need of computer, to be turned on forever.

Any comments? Pl. extend yr thot's.

Thx.

If no computer is needed, why does it have a USB plug and a USB driver to download? It also states no additional payments until the fourth year but doesn't explain the statement.

There is a long thread in the dslreports.com VoIP Tech Talk forum about NetTalk TK6000. I remember the main concerns were that Local DID's were not available in all area codes. Not all advertised features were working yet. It seemed to be a beta product.

^^ Good questions. I raised the same and talked to them earlier.

The reason that it has a USB plug and talking about it's drivers loading and all these,..
'Coz, like magic jack, it can ALSO work with PC too, hence, suppose if no electricity is available,
say you are in train, bus or on a vacation trip with a laptop
and suppose you are sitting on a picnic in an outdoor park/area with your laptop and still having phone, wire system in pack, with this piece in hand, you can still dial.

I Think, they are in market since 1.5 yrs, so No beta version.
I am more concerned about their voice quality, whether they are better than ooma and atleast better than magic jack.

<<It also states no additional payments until the fourth year but doesn't explain the statement.>>
They say, it's for after this promtion ends, and for people who did not qualify for this time of promotional offer, it's for them.
They said to me,.. pay 99 dollars and we can waive shipping fee, so it's all free afterwards life-long for local and US/Canada long distances, No need to keep computer ON, if you wished to run it just like ooma through router/cable box.

Again, I am NOT favoring them, as I have never used it.
I need honest opinions in terms of plus and minuses.

Thx all.

Thx.

I do not like the fact that although NetTalk's page advertises unlimited service for a lifetime, you need to dig into the details in product comparison and knowledge base to find out it is only for 3 years and you will be charged a fee for service after that. It was mentioned in the dslreports forum that it will be $20 for another year. However, I still have a hard time finding that information reading the web site. I think their plan is to have people buy the product, make it their primary phone service. After three years when they are presented with a bill, they are stuck with the service and pay up.

By the way, there is a USB driver that you can download and install on your computer. Then you can connect the TK6000 to the computer via a USB cable. It will make the TK6000 to work like the MagicJack.

According to the record found out by the people in the forum in dslreports.com. The web site was created on Jun 17 2009. The company might have come together 1.5 years ago but they might not have a workable product until Jun. It is so new, no track record and as I said, I do not like the way that they advertised it as unlimited lifetime free when it is not. Also, there is a chance that it will be another SunRocket.

I had the same question, they have mentioned it here,==> ( read 3rd para on below link starting with,.. " With Magic jack yearly fees,..." )

https://www.tk6000.com/net-talk-vs-others.html
However, calling them, they say,... if you bought this time
that can be avoided as treating you a promotional offer customer!
Still not sure, what is true? !!!

I also wonder,... why magic jack is so famous and they are not !!

Folks:::

Here is my search and investigation so far, for diff. "phones, VOIP , Internets, rates, prices and all,..,... !
Pl. Read it and hope it will be useful to you, and as per your need, giving you the idea about what to do.
( Sorry for long post, if it sounded off-topic, kindly forgive me )

In fact, there are many other VOIP tools out there, which people use very often as per their needs
and some Asian people choose also other ones per their often calling in China, India etc,.. since magic jack and ooma both have unreasonable call rates to dial to Asian countries.

e.g. Some tools offer, only 1 cents per min. talk to India, such as http://www.indiald.com

Ooma is better so far no doubt and I also own it, but it also faces tough competition with ,...........

Teleblend/sunrocket,
ALLVOI.com
Lingo link
Via talk
Sky pe
Google talk
Linksys PAT2TNA
Nymgo SIP service
Magic jack
TK6000
Google voice/ Gizmo 5
And many others,..

Following is an interesting talk forum to read and
I also came up with following other web pages for coupons, best offers and discussing this issue, besides this.

I also have another voip provider (broadvoice). I had that before I bought Ooma. And I am using local phone (http://www.localphone.com) for my international calls. It gives you a local number for each international number you call thus they will appear as local calls on your phone bill. Their rate is very cheap (and no monthly cost) and the quality is no different than using the international calling service provided by the voip companies.

I use your example, with local phone, call to India is 1.8 cents a minute. Not as cheap as the one you mentioned. However, there is no monthly cost. And that is the real cost. There is no Federal Universal Service Fund (FUSF) fee.

Also, you can have an incoming number created for you in 47 countries. The cost for of having an incoming number for some countries is as little as $1 per month. Then your friends and family from other countries can call your incoming number (local to them) and rings your phone.

^^ I agree with you.

If you are dialing more often to India, here is a link to an Indian minded web forum and they talk continuously on this topic,
so stay in touch with them, for the best update.

http://www.r2iclubforums.com/forums/f50 ... lend-9772/

Now a days, since vonage made international calls including India free a month ago, ( provide you have regular monthly service with them ) most people use that.
Some try with 2 pieces of magic jack/ ooma , sending one to their relatives there in India/Pakistan.
In my case, I had applied for AT&T credit cards ( including for all of my family members ) and they offer few free minutes every month, so it works like free.

This number - 1-631-763-1059 ( http://freecall2india.com ) was offering total free phones to India ( phone to phone ) , but they just discontinued. I think, they still offer from UK to India free. ( Chk links posted in my above long post )

If you are from India, below is the forum you must stay in touch with, for any issues of life.
http://www.r2iclubforums.com/forums/

Regards.
