I don't even have QoS enabled on my router, so it shouldn't favor the ooma hub.. and if what you are stating is true, when ooma is idling it uses nothing, it shouldn't be causing lag anyways right? But I am still getting lag like I am having packets dropped/lost..

Hmm..

I just tried removing the router all together... so I just use
modem-> ooma -> computer

and nothing lags

but that doesn't solve the problem because I need my router...

If I use just my router, nothing lags...

it is only when I connect ooma to my router I get this lag... anyone got a clue what is going on?

I'd put my money on Tomato. There's got to be a setting in there somewhere (not necessarily QOS) that controls ports.
Have you tried using a different port to plug ooma into the router?
You have peaked my interest in Tomato and I'm currently searching for a different router to try it. My Linksys in a non linux.

I tried with dd-wrt and also had the same problem..

if u are trying to buy a router to try out tomato, I suggest the wrt54g-tm
search for it on ebay, u can get it relatively cheap from there and it is a great router (with lots of memory) for tweaks with 3rd party firmwares

in the mean while I think i will revert back to the original linksys firmware and see if that fixes anything.....

I bet it does. I have a Linksys wrt 54gs v 5 and it works flawlessly.
My son has an older Linksys and I'm going to try Tomato on that.

I tried another router, with normal firmware, and the problem still exists... I get lag when ooma is IDLE... what is going on?? I have no landline plugged in... my ooma is behind my router...

grr this is getting frustrating :(

Does anyone know if i return ooma, but my porting process is undergoing... can I get a refund for the porting process as well?

U said u didn't experience lag when U removed the router and plug the Ooma directly in the modem? Then did u try pluging the router in ooma? So the setup is Modem>Ooma>Router? I would also suggest update the router to the newest tomato firmware (if it isn't already). http://www.polarcloud.com/tomato

U could have a defective Ooma Hub also.

when I do the setup as follow

modem->ooma->router ... my internet doesn't work at all

I have the latest tomato firmware...

also my ooma hub works fine because I just tried it with an older router..

Tomato rocks! I installed Tomato on a different Linksys and it is awesome!
Great control on QOS and ports. Thanks for the info on the os!

yeah Tomato is a very stable firmware, a lot better than the default Linksys ones :)

anyways, since you seem to be using a linksys router as well and I know you have your ooma behind your router, but you never experience the same kind of lag I am... I am wondering what is wrong with my setup or if you just can't notice the lag (yet).. because it is very hard to notice unless your playing an internet game.

If possible, can you try joining any IRC channel and see if you can stay on for a whole hour without getting disconnected from the server/channel?

Thanks!
