Local 408 calling with 1

Post by Chris W » Fri Oct 19, 2012 6:13 pm

Beginning Oct 20th all local calls in the 408 area code must dial a 1 preceding the area code. Is it necessary to dial 1 before selecting the number from the contact list, or will this be automatic when 10-digit dialing is selected?

Enabling 10 digit dialing will let you dial just 10 digits. Even then, you can still dial 7 digits but follow with # to connect immediately.

I could be wrong, but I thought that enabling 10-digit dialing only add's a 1 for long distance and calls outside your area code. If I understand this correctly, with 10-digit enabled, calls from a 408 number to another 408 will automatically add the 1?

10 digit dialing lets you dial numbers like you would on a cell phone. Always 10 digits without a 1.
You can also dial 7 digits if same area code but there would be a delay but a # would put call through right away.

From my Ooma System Preference page:
"10-digit dialing lets you make long-distance calls without dialing the initial 1, just like on your cell phone.
This can introduce a short delay if you dial 7 digits for local calls. Press # after you dial to put the call through immediately."
