  • Wildcard entries to block all Toll Free calls (5 entries).
  • Wildcard entries to block most area codes that I blacklisted before and I don't usually get legit calls from (about 50 entries).
  • Wildcard entries that are more explicit for neighboring/local area code numbers that I blacklisted before (at least area code + exchange and then plus 1st digit of subscriber number in cases).
  • Wildcard entries to block most invalid numbers (0* and 1*).
  • Outside of what the above covers, explicit blacklisted numbers.

Now, I am down to 111 personal blacklist entries from 247.

For those who want to block every number out there, all you need is 10 entries (0* through 9*)
But you probably don't want to block all numbers in area codes near you.
My phone has been very quiet, thanks to wildcard blacklist. For my area, the following blacklist entries are doing the trick:

You need to add:

89* Unassigned area code 89x
99* Unassigned area code 99x

Of course, your extensive list of valid area codes would block calls many people would want, so I would caution others to not accept this blindly.

According to this http://www.computerhope.com/areacode.htm , most of 89* are unassigned but 898.
All of 99* are unassigend. Maybe if I start getting calls from these unassigned area codes, I'll add more unassigned area codes in my blacklist but for now, these seem to be good ones to add:

29*
37*
39*
49*
59*
69*
79*
89*
99*

Yes, you don't want to block all numbers of area codes near you. For me, I have more explicit wildcard entries for area codes 206, 425, 253, and 360.

There seems to be a problem I have encountered. I wanted to test your theory, so I decided to run a test with the help of my immediate family and a few friends, all calling from landlines and cell numbers.

I added these individuals--I used a test sample of 10 people/numbers and added these numbers to my blacklist of my primary number. When each of them called, they got the "number disconnected" message, which was what I wanted. However, when each of them called my secondary number, which used to be my primary number, or when each of them called my tertiary number for which I pay $4.99/month additional, all of their calls went through! Not one got the "number disconnected" message!

I do NOT have a private account or anything that would cause this. This renders the blacklist effectively useless to me!

The blacklist is at the account level and should work for all your numbers in the account. I just tested this and works for me. I'd call customer service to find out what's going on with your blacklist.

They're going to see what's wrong. I explained to them that I had 10 different people test it, as I did, too. I called from my cell phone, and sure enough, my primary # gave me the number disconnected message, while the secondary number, my old primary number before I moved, rang through.

Last week some number called but didn't leave a message. (206) 241-5066 CONSUMER OPINIO

Bing, Google didn't yield much info. Calling back gave endless ring.

Since the number is in my area code, I didn't want to leverage wildcard blacklisting. I just blacklisted the number to go to VM.

Last evening, got another call (206) 241-5087 CONSUMER OPINIO that didn't leave a message. Calling gives a busy.

This is where the beauty of wildcard blacklisting comes in. I deleted the previous (206) 241-5066 explicit blacklist entry and added a wildcard entry 2062415* (could have gone with 20624150* but I got blacklisted calls going to VM so not worried as much about being too restrictive).

I was almost to my limit on my blacklist, but instituted some wildcards (like all calls from area codes beginning with 3xx) and was able to take a lot of individual numbers off.

However, today I got a spam call from a 3xx number and wondered why it got through. I was also going through my logs to add some other numbers to the list (about six total). When I went to my Blacklists to see why the 3xx got through, all I could see were the SIX numbers I had just put on the list and NOTHING else! My old blacklist of nearly 256 numbers, compiled over several years, had been completely deleted!

Has this happened to anyone else? Why would my blacklist be gone and is there any way to get it back, or do I have to start again from scratch now?

This prompted me to copy and paste my blacklist to a Word doc and save it somewhere on my PC. Now, if this happens to me, I will have the list to manually reenter.

As far as your situation goes, while this never has happened to me--yet--I recall reading about it somewhere, and that person had to recreate the list from scratch.

I think I copied some of mine to a text file a few years ago, I will have to look it up on my computer.

I wonder if this is related to me activating the mobile app on my iPad recently.
