Re: Ooma Replacement Power Adapters
Is that correct on the size for the Ooma Telo? I'm measuring my plug, looks to be 2.5mm x 1mm and about 5.5mm long.
I am looking to confirm as a lightning strike fried my Ooma, I am trying to determine if it was just the power supply or the device itself, so I'm looking to get a cheap power supply to test it.

Correct power adapter for Ooma Telo and Ooma Scout:rjcrjc wrote:Is that correct on the size for the Ooma Telo? I'm measuring my plug, looks to be 2.5mm x 1mm and about 5.5mm long.
5V 2A
3.8x1.35mm
I tried tip size 3.5x1.35mm (more common in the market place) and it works well. Just make sure you get the barrel/plug length as close as possible; would look awkward if barrel too long for example.
Re: Ooma Replacement Power Adapters
Where would one purchase these replacement power adapters? I have a Telo and there's nothing wrong with its adapter, but I'm thinking it might be a good idea to have a spare on hand just in case. I did a cursory search at newegg but couldn't find anything appropriate. Suggestions anyone?lbmofo wrote:Correct power adapter for Ooma Telo and Ooma Scout:rjcrjc wrote:Is that correct on the size for the Ooma Telo? Re: Ooma Replacement Power Adapters
Try Amazon or eBay.
I got this one from eBay (search for AC DC Power Supply Adapter 5V 2A 3.5MM x 1.35MM) and it failed after 4 days; seller sent a replacement that failed in 1 day. I'd stay away from any generic adapters that look like this.

Perhaps try to find a device (router or something) that uses the same type of adapters (but hard to find one with the same tip size).

If you have an Ooma Telo or Scout needing a new power adapter, probably the best thing to do is to call Ooma Support and get a Telo power adapter (works for Scout as well) for a bit less than $20 shipping included.
Or you can do what I did (for my Scout's failed power adapter replacement): I took a spare D-Link DAP-1522 (wireless bridge) power adapter (5V 2A), cut off the tip and replaced it with the tip from failed Scout power adapter.

Re: Ooma Replacement Power Adapters
Finished product: D-Link power adapter with Scout power adapter tip

I am sure there are other OEM power adapters that would work as well. Tip swap is no big deal if you feel comfy with soldering and using a multi-meter (make sure no short, proper voltage, inside of tip is + etc.).
For Telo and Scout: D-Link AF1205-B Power Adapter 5V 2A (definitely needs tip swap)

For Hub: Netgear T012LF1209 Power Adapter 12V 1A (maybe needs tip swap; tip is 5.5x2.5mm instead of Ooma Hub 5.5x2.1mm)

Important note: Ooma Scout and Telo power adapters can take voltage inputs from 100V to 240V so if you take them to some foreign countries with 240V power, you'd just need plug adapters if needed (no voltage conversion device needed). However, the D-Link and Linksys adapters cited for example above can only handle 100V to 120V as input. (Ooma Hub factory power adapter takes input 120V).

Re: Ooma Replacement Power Adapters
Just an FYI for the Ooma Telo.
My power supply failed last night. I used a USB wall outlet (an adapter that plugs into a wall 120V outlet and supplies 5 volts) that can supply up to 2 amps; got one at Home Depot for about $3 but they're pretty common now). I then got an old USB cable that was lying around and cut the cable to keep only the male end and a lot of cable, stripped the shell to expose the small wires Inside (the red is for +5V and the black is ground). I cut the cable of the defective power supply and identified the conductor that connects to the inside of the tip and connected that to the red wire of the USB cable; then did the same with the cable that connects to the outside of the tip and the black wire of the USB cable.
It works, although I'm not sure if the calibre of the wires Inside the USB cable can handle 2 amps well. At least, this is tiding me over till I receive the power supply that Ooma is shipping me.

Re: Ooma Replacement Power Adapters
That would work too but with USB plugs, make sure it is rated the same as what Ooma calls for (Telo = 2A). A lot of USB plugs out there are 1A or less. Also, a lot of work swapping tip
Re: Ooma Replacement Power Adapters
Would the universal AC adapters with adjustable voltage and tips that Radio Shack sells work?
