How to fix Caller-ID if you know the number/owner?

Post by Rmonio » Wed Oct 02, 2019 4:35 pm

My daughter’s cell phone number keeps coming up as a particular corporation. This is wrong and I’d like to change it so it shows her name. How can I do that?

Thanks!

Put her number and name in your Ooma contact list in your online account.

If she wants it to be correct for everyone she calls she will have to complain to her cellphone carrier.

Thanks, Murphy.

I updated the contact list and that took care of it. Nice that we can override what is coming in via the phone carrier’s CallerID database.

However, I don’t think this is an AT&T problem. The former landline carrier that we ported our number from had no issues with it. And neither is anyone else reporting that it is wrong. So it must just be with OOMA’s CallerID database.

Anyone else have ideas?

Thanks for your help!

If others see your correct CID info, I believe your daughter’s cell phone provider needs to refresh their local database. My brother recently changed providers & now my calls come in w/ 15+ yr. old data (old roommate's name), but they don't seem willing to fix it. In this day and age, w/ prolific number mobility, I'm surprised things like this aren't automated.

Agreed.

Unfortunately not all systems seem to work together as they should. Reminds me of the early days of the internet when Nameservers didn’t get updated as quickly as we expected. :-).

Shhh, you're dating us. ;)

Since MOST folks are getting our correct CID info, Ooma (& most providers) are keeping up. The only obvious recourse is to pester the ones who don't & they respond best (?) to their own customers, methnks.

(spell check doesn't like 'methinks'... who do I pester???? :) )

:-).

I don’t mind “dating” us, Tony... I still remember when there was only 4 DARPA Hubs that we were connecting to through the backdoor!

Thanks!

Update - I uploaded my contact list to the OOMA app and now it shows the correct listing. However, when we get the caller-id on our phones or when I look at the OOMA dashboard, it still shows the incorrect listing. How do I fix this?

Thanks!

Interesting. My best guess would be 'propagation delay', as all listed calls on my Dashboard reflect numbers/IDs defined in my contact list. See how it resolves over time?

Go to your online account and trigger a sync if you have Ooma handsets.
