Groundhound and scot and rest of the ooma forum

Thanks for your time in helping me.
Call quality is the same. I can hear clear as long as I do not talk in between vice versa. When I call international I have to wait for few seconds before I talk. Its not full duplex quality like regular phone.

What are you using to test the call with? I have noticed the half duplex when talking to people on cell phones. I haven't noticed it when I call people on a POTS lines. Is the half duplex the call quality problem you are referring to?

I am not using any tesing equipment or anythng. It is just my new panasonic 6.0 dect phones. When I call anyone on cell it is bad and landline as I said sound is clear but I have to wait till other end stops talking, if I talk in between both the ends wont be able to hear full. That is what I meant about full duplex quality. Hope this explains.

So you have the half duplex when calling someone on a landline?

I wonder if your Panasonic is doing that?

I have noticed it before but only when calling people on cell phones. I will pay more attention to see if it happens while talking to people on landlines.

You might want to try with an older style phone. I just tested with our phone system and when I have it on speaker phone the phone resorts to half duplex. When in normal mode it is full duplex.

I tried with the old phone with cord, panasonic 2.4 gz, and with new 6.o dect system. Result is the same. In fact 6.0 worked very well with the landline before I switched to Ooma.

If I use speaker I hear lot of echo, of course without speaker also I hear echo but not too much like on speaker.

New Modem with voip capability wherein I could set the qos available? If yes may be I may have to think about it.

Thanks

NRS

exactly same problems as you

Until OOMA actually admits their Hubs do not work with Cable Internet

Everyone here including OOMA themselves will blame your ISP.

All OOMA advertises that you need is High Speed Internet, not X amount of QOS, jitter, blah blah blah.

I think in the long run, this is what is going to limit the growth of OOMA and keep it in 3rd or 4th place in the VOIP race.

They have no answers for voice breaking up.

Everytime I call or email them, they tell me how to set the Up to 384 .

when I ask them, that doesnt do anything.

they blame the ISP.

Its getting old but Im stuck with OOMA since my 2 numbers are ported here and Im just using this thing as an answering machine now.

Getting Vonage for a month to see if its really my ISP connection.

I have a feeling its the OOMA Hub and Cable Internet not getting along.

Sucks we as the consumer have to fish around for answers.

I can just imagine "Joe Blow" or some "Mom" with no tech background being told "his/her Jitter is off" "set the QOS to this" blah blah blah.

OOMA, just be like Apple and just make it work, for the sake of your own growth.

Darn! Someone must have kicked the rock and look who slipped out to complain.

whn, It's time for us to come clean. ALL of us know how to make your system work perfectly. Even the newest people on this forum have been slipped the answer privately. Tech support knows how to make your system work but have been told not to tell you. We know the proper settings. Our systems all work great. We even placed a backdoor into your software in case you ever figure it out so we can break your system again. But we aren't going to tell you how to make your system work because we love your whining so much! There! I've said it. Please come back often because we like it when you leave - the contrast is awesome!

Excuse me now because it is time for me to drink my kool-aid.

I can honestly say it's not ooma's fault

Ooma plays MUCH nicer with cable internet than it does DSL, in fact. It's just that cable internet is a little more prone to connection issues than DSL is.

Your ooma hub is a VoIP adapter with QoS capability, but QoS is only for prioritizing traffic on your network - it can't help inconsistent connection issues that occur upstream from you. However, a different modem may help because there may be something wrong with the one you have. Do you own your modem or rent it from the cable company? You might want to try a different modem from Charter to see if that improves your connection. With most cable providers, the settings and firmware on the modem are controlled by the cable company - so there won't be any QoS settings in the modem for you to tinker with, but a new modem may still provide a cleaner connection, and renting one from Charter is a cheap way to eliminate the modem as a possible source of the problem.
